Through in-home cooking classes, students learn how to cook the foods they love to eat in a relaxing environment. Students choose the date and time of their class, the menu they want to learn, and one of our encouraging and experienced Chef-instructors will arrive to show them the ropes. Classes are approximately 2 ½ hours and are centered around the preparation of a complete meal.

Please read all about how our in-home classes work, from scheduling to clean-up.

We can accommodate even the most difficult of schedules! Afternoon, after work, and weekend classes are all available. As a courtesy to our instructors, we require a 48-hour notice (by phone, please, in case we don’t catch the email) to reschedule any booked class.

Classes can be held in any home kitchen within a 40-mile radius of Pittsburgh. We are often able to travel beyond this radius to teach, so please ask us if you live beyond the city limits. Traveling costs start at $60/hour round trip from Pittsburgh.

As long as you can put a cutting board down (in the kitchen or on the dining room table) as many times as there are students, you can comfortably learn to cook in your home kitchen.

If you would like to gather a group of friends to join you in the kitchen for a night of cooking, please check out our cooking parties page.

All menus are tailored to suit the tastes and skill level of each student. For inspiration, browse through our most popular menus. Each student receives a recipe booklet at the beginning of class.

  • 1 to 3 students: $300
  • 4 students: $400
  • For groups of 5 or more people, check our Chef for details.

Students will be sent a detailed shopping list prior to class so they will have the necessary groceries on hand. (Whole Foods, for city slickers, makes this a breeze.) If you want Chef Frank to do the shopping additional fees apply.

What To Expect at a private cooking class

To ensure that you have are the best experience during your cooking class, here is what you can expect from us at CFADC and how best to prepare for your class:

  • First, you will choose the date and the time of your class, followed by your menu: Chef Frank has a list of good menus to consider. They are customizable, as needed.
  • Each class is about 2 ½ hours and culminates in a full sit-down meal for you to enjoy at the end (or pack up for later). Some menus have dishes that can be enjoyed before the end of class; each menu is unique.
  • A week before the class: A detailed shopping list will be sent to you so you can see everything you need for when your chef-instructor shops. It will also include a basic list of cooking equipment needed, but we can always improvise if you do not have exactly what is listed. Just discuss that with your chef-instructor when they call.
  • The day before your class: Your chef-instructor will be in touch by phone to introduce themselves and see if there is anything you need them to bring to the class. They can bring difficult-to-find ingredients or any small piece of cooking equipment that you do not have.
  • The day of your class: Your chef-instructor will arrive at the appointed time with a recipe packet in hand for you to keep and to make notes on, as you wish.
  • Grocery shopping: Chef Frank can either do all the shopping or client can tag along to understand the way a chef thinks when they shop for events.
  • Cleaning: Please make sure your kitchen is clean before the start of class. Also, during the class, we strive for a “clean-as-we-go” policy to keep the kitchen orderly during the class so you are left with a tidy kitchen at the end. Minus any of the dinner dishes you’ll be eating from and any food vessels with leftovers (for seconds!), the chef will make sure that all equipment used during the class is cleaned before they leave.
  • Gratuity: It is always appreciated if you have had an excellent experience.

Thank you!

Surprise your guests at your next event with
